Jolly Pants Association.

I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry.

I know it’s been too long.

But they are working me pretty darn hard here (should be worth it though – this month will hopefully be funding my autumn jaunt to Canada and helping to pay for a car, so I mustn’t grumble!). Here at LASA we are 12 days down, 8 to go, and the pace is quite frenetic, but we’re having a lot of fun also :-).

We’ve done so much over the last (almost) two weeks. We’ve been to the Palace of Westminster (I saw John Prescott! And Neil Kinnock!) and the House of Lords for luncheon, seen ‘Macbeth’ in Stratford-Upon-Avon, been to a proper polo match, visited so many stately homes and castles, met Earl Spencer… The girls (and me, huzzah!) have tried fencing, deportment, cookery; and had seminars on etiquette, makeup, manners…. It’s pretty packed.

And the girls are nice. It takes some adapting to get used to having a dozen teenagers to get here and there and fed and showered and rested, but they are a sweet group – very funny, very lively, very keen to enjoy their time over here. I think I’ll miss them when they go – but the late finishes, early starts and lack of free time I’m more than ready to say farewell to!

Away from LASA, I’ve been looking at dozens of cars online (v. exciting!), trying to get my moped sorted (both the police and my insurers have been pretty darn useless), trying to sort out my ‘free’ month next month, and getting all geared up for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – I got my copy at a half after midnight and even in the midst of the craziness I’ve managed to get 130 pages in (so tired this morning, but so worth it).

Gotta go now – duty calls! More soon, I promise, and next month I’ll probably be posting every day because I’ll have time! How are you guys?

Love, as always,
Cxx

PS Why ‘Jolly Pants Association’? Well, our LASA shirts have JPA on the labels…we’ve since found out those initials stand for something to do with polo, but I prefer my acronym!

Wowee, what a marathon!

I am just bushed. But glad to be here :-).

Term is over, and after 4 days of shindigs (whole school assembly, the enticingly entitled 'Extravaganza', section supper, final assembly, swimming gala, Year 3 leaving meet, prizegiving AND our leavers service) we are now on summer break. The last week was manic, but had some major high points - section supper was top, top banter, final assembly saw the first performance of our staff band (I had to sing lead on 'I Say A Little Prayer' in front of the whole Upper School AND all my colleagues - nerves aplenty, believe me!), and a really moving day yesterday as the Year 8s said farewell and headed off to their public schools (*sniff, blub*). They are going to do SO well. The Year 3s spoilt us with lovely pressies and adorable cards too, as is their wont, so we've had a wonderful time all round.

Last night was the staff 'Curry and Far Too Much Booze' get-together, which was top fun, and included an impromptu sing-/drum-/strum-/play-along. I have to say, dancing with two small people, singing 'Dancing Queen' with gusto and occasionally hitting a bongo was a strangely fitting end to this year!

This morning, I had a meeting for LASA, my summer job (www.lasauk.com if you fancy a peek!), and am now sat in school emailing and preparing to take the last bunch of gifts home. The rest of the weekend will be phone calls, laundry, relaxing in the sun and packing - the first girls arrive Monday morning, so my LASA stint kicks off at 9 a.m....three manic weeks ahead, but some great experiences on the agenda.

How art thee, lovely folk?

Love, as always,
Cxx

PS This time in a month I'll be in Scotland! :-)
PPS And I might have a car!! :-)
PPPS And I'll be about to go meet Caroline and Jeremy in Inverschneckie!!! :-)

Huzzah for the summer months!

Bouncing back. Slowly.

My brain hurts, and I feel thoroughly jangled this evening. I’m still reeling from the severe bumpage of Saturday, and the fact that I’m needing oodles of sleep to cope with life. I managed a gargantuan 8.15 – 3 shift at school today…then came home and collapsed into a deep and dreamless sleep till almost 7! My poor body evidently needs it though, because I’m feeling a little better now. Ibuprofen is definitely my new best friend though – I feel sore sore sore – every muscle seems to be registering its disapproval of the unscheduled flight and landing we had on Saturday. I keep having flashbacks too, which is perfectly natural, but a little traumatic. Once again, I’m so grateful my guardian angel was wide awake and on duty, but it’s still a pain to be in pain…the kiddies were very good today, but I think they were a bit non-plussed (everything’s having to be s…l….o…w for now, whereas normally I bounce around like Tigger!). I hope I get back to normal soon.

Thanks for all the prayers and good vibes and sweet messages – it really means a lot. Not having transport and being less than well and having to wait for police / lawyers / insurers to get it sorted is trying and tiring, to say the least, and it’s lovely to have your support and good wishes.

And now I’m going to do a survey…Harriet and Brett and Alicia have been churning out tonnes lately, and I felt it was time I rejoined the party. Plus, anything that doesn’t require much brain work is ideal just now.

Love, as always,Cxx

PS Harriet, this survey was insane!

WE ARE TRYING OUR HARDEST TO MAKE THIS THE BIGGEST, MOST SPREAD AROUND QUIZ OF 2007. SO DO IT!!!!

Were you a planned baby?: Planned, not so much. Hoped for? Very much so.
Were you the first?: Yep.
Who was present at your birth?: Mum.
Were your parents married when you were born?: Yep.
What is your birthdate?: the same as it was a few questions ago.

Part 2: The Family
Are you parents married or divorced? Married.
An only child?: No.
If you have siblings are you oldest, middle, or youngest?: Oldest.
What are your sibling's names?: Sian and Peter.
Which parent do you get along with best?: Mum. Dad’s cool, but mum and I have a great bond.
What do you fight about? Really really dumb / random / off the wall topics like salad dressing or the death penalty or baby photos. We’re not so much with the big important fights round our way!
Do you have step parents?: Nope.

Part 3: The Friends
Do you have more than one best friend? Yeah.
What do you like to do when you are together? Anything and everything.
Do you share the same interests?: Ish. I’d say we all like to chat and have fun, but my friends are a pretty diverse bunch (and I love them for it!).
Which friend can you tell anything to?: The ones who know the most are Naomi and Hannah, but I’m private about some things.

Part 4: Your Personality
How high/low is your self esteem?: Fairly low, but much better than it used to be :-).
Do you get depressed about things easily?: I can at times. There are certain areas of my life which can depress me more easily than others.
Are you an extrovert (outgoing) or an introvert (reserved)?: I think I’m more extrovert than introvert, but I can be really shy with new folk, and do like to have time alone to regroup.
Are you happy?: Most of the time.
Do you live life to the fullest?: Most of the time.

Part 5: Appearance
Are you comfortable with the way you look? Ish. There are things I know I want to change, but it’s the psychological battle (a long, and rather dull if you’re not me story there) that’ll take the time.
Describe your hair? Really needs cutting.
How do you dress? For work – cute skirts and cardis and flats and pretty necklaces. For 'chillaxing' – jeans and tees and converse sneakers/ walking boots. For going out – skirts, tops, bling, heels.
Were you a strange child?: Oh yes.
What did you used to love that you no longer do? Until the age of five I loved Marmite – and I hate it now.
Do you have the same friends?: From when I was wee? Not so much, as I’m a service brat!
Was there anything in your past that was traumatizing? Oh yes, quite the bundle of stuff.

Oh, and marry George Clooney, natch.
Are you scared of growing old?: A little.
Do you want to get married?: One day, sure. I just think it’s cool that people meet someone and then one day just think “Yep. You’re the one.” How randomly amazing is that?

Do you believe in love at first sight?: I believe in lust / attraction at first sight, which may or may not turn out to be love.

Part 11: Experiences
What was one of your greatest experiences?: Passing my driving test! I’m not sure how I managed it what with the shock and pressure and nerves, but I really felt proud of myself, and that doesn’t happen too often!
What was one of the worst? No comment.

Flying without wings. In two radically different ways.

So, it's been a really busy weekend here!

Yesterday I had a horrid day all round - I had an allergic reaction to a shampoo in the morning and had to get that sorted and then...

There I was mopeding into school, all chilled and safe...and a BMW comes right into me, far too fast, without even pausing at the 'give way'. By some lucky circumstance, my instinct was to rev and get out of there - the car hit my back wheel, threw me in the air, bounced me off the bonnet and landed me on the road. This was lucky break number one - had I not accelerated I would probably have been hit fully side on by the car and dragged/squished. Second lucky break was landing without losing conciousness OR breaking anything (but man, I have some AWESOME bruises!). Turns out I'm one of the few people who get to walk away from these things, and I am immensely grateful. Phew.

Police, insurance, etc. to follow, but I'm just counting my lucky stars I'm here to type this - laying there on that road sensing how I'd landed I was truly, truly scared.

Today I am 'flying' in a totally different sense, because I just passed my driving test! Yay!!!!!

Talk about pressure though - I'm sore everywhere and my mind is frazzled - but I did it!

Hope your weekends have been safe and happy!

Cxx
