This weekend I...(July 30th - August 1st)

(I often post weekend updates. And as I am *forever* saying during termtime that I need to aim to make the best of my leisure time (especially the weekends), I've decided to make a fixture of these weekend wrap-ups. I'd love to hear what you got up to on your weekend - do feel free to add your link below and I'll be sure to have a look!).

So, this weekend I....

Drank some lovely red wine and some lethal(ly delicious) Belgian beer with my good friend Richard. We also had a chance meeting with a man with a sign and ate our own weight in mussels, rotisserie chicken, and gooood chips. It is mighty lucky I am spending a decent amount of time in the gym, I can tell you.

On Saturday I awoke to the refreshing pitter patter of raindrops on the sill. Which would be brilliant, if I hadn't planned to host a picnic that very day! A quick message was sent and an "indoor picnic" was declared!

Cue lots of hurried tidying. And baking.

Then about a dozen lovely people came round, for food and drink and cake. Lovely chat, great company, and even some party games....a fabulous afternoon. Emily made noms, Emma brought fruit, Phil brought his moustache, I totally neglected to take photos. There will be photos next time, promise!

The afternoon and the clear up (which may have worried our neighbours as we made several journeys to and from the recycling bin!) exhausted both Matthew and I, so we spent yesterday evening curled up on the couch, watching 'Mad Men'. Yay for finding a show we both like!

This morning I was up early to go to the pool. Due to some sneaky-Pete-ish-ness someone nicked my place in the 'water workout', so I went for a swim instead. Oh, I love swimming.

Back home, I read some more of 'The Happiness Project' and started 'I Will Carry You' (which is *amazing*. Such a tale of faith!).

Then the beautiful Kaz treated me to dim sum at Ping Pong. I ate altogether too much and was thoroughly charmed by Kaz as ever, and so grateful for the chance to catch up. I loved the food too - I may have to return before too long!

I then came home and read a tonne of blogs. So much inspiration out there.

A couple of hours back I hit the kitchen to make fresh juice for Matthew and I (melon-apple-strawberry - NOM!) and melon iced tea (which tastes lovely, but also resulted in both myself and the kitchen getting drenched in cold tea! I really should have taken a photo, but tannin drenched drowned rat is not a look I'm aiming for!)!

A couple of phone calls, a few chores, and now the weekend is almost done. We have baked potatoes in the oven and ratatouille in the crockpot, and will be curling up for another episode of 'Mad Men' then turning in before another busy week.

How about you?

  1. I love swimming, too. How rare is it to have access to a pool in London? Or did you go swim at a gym?

  2. There are quite a few pools in London. Mine is at my (council owned) gym, I love it! There are also outdoor swimming pools near me, but they are so algae-fied I haven't worked up the bravery to swim there yet!

  3. I too enjoyed the pool here, but it was so hot the outdoor pool felt as warm as bathwater.

Thank you for your comment - I do read them all but it may take me a little while (a couple of days) to respond during busy times. I love reading what you have to say!

Have a wonderful day!
