So the weekend was a vvveeeerrrryyyy long one, but it was great fun. Awesome to catch up with Banana and have some good times, even better to get the hell out of Dodge for a few. You know that Postal Service song ‘This Place Is A Prison’? Well, up until the escape, the title had been becoming far, far too apt.
But a change is as good as a rest, right?
Friday night we schlepped into London, and I proceeded to play one of my favourite games – scare people by being nice to them. Always a giggle…I give money to buskers (except those who play the harmonica for some weird personal reason), buy the Big Issue, donate to charity collectors (but not evil Chuggers), give up my seat on the Tube for old ladies, let people go up the escalator first, smile at baristas…it’s such a simple yet amusing game! Then I took Banana to see Wicked as her birthday treat.
Oh. My. Gosh.
It is AMAZING! The music, the story, the sets, the acting, the awfully dishy male lead, everything. It was so good that Banana bought the soundtrack and I had to spend most of Saturday learning the score to sing it for her (wow, it’s a tough old score. And Banana is one heck of a taskmaster). Just brilliant.
Train home, pizza, lie-in.
Saturday we trawled round the shops of Harlow and tried on eleventy million outfits…then didn’t buy any. Saturday night was wine. Lots of wine (photos to follow next post!), and japery involving my throwing crisps everywhere (no-one told me the bag was open…), me spilling red wine everywhere, then Banana spilling wine in the exact same place, then the sugar sniffing thing, and lots of delightfully cheesey music. Don’t you just love girls nights? And then we went to the skankiest club I’ve ever frequented (and believe me, I’ve been to some tacky clubs!). By this point I was on the diet Cokes, but the girls continued with the bevvies, so naturally we wound up dancing on stage. 1.30 a.m., chippy run, cab home, sleeeeeep.
A Sunday in PJs watching The Devil Wears Prada, Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Legally Blonde. Then round to Banana’s family for Sunday roast and off to the movies for a viewing of The Painted Veil. Beautiful, sad, probably worth waiting for the DVD. Rounded off the weekend with QI and chat.
Monday, home and stuff. Tuesday, chores, letters and paperwork. Today lunch with the adorable DW, and about time to make a fresh start on the reports and all that jazz.
I had written a much more down post than this, but this is the one I’m going with.
How are you guys?
Love, as always,
