Selfridges, one of the giant department stores here in London, opened their Christmas showroom yesterday. Vixie and I are both a) addicted to Christmas and b) on summer break, so we could hardly resist the chance to have a look around.
As lovely as it was, it was utterly bizarre to be walking around, planning Christmas trees and listening to carols while outside it was sunny and warm! I don’t tend to get really excited until late autumn, for all my year-round gift buying, but it was neat to have a look around and have a good girly time.
While we were there Vixie got filmed perusing for a TV show and I got interviewed by a radio station – what a bizarre reason to gain a claim to fame (‘The Women Who Love Christmas’…). After a good few laps round we retired to have a hearty lunch and delight in our purchases. Here, in no particular order, are some pics from the day!
I love these old-fashioned felt stockings. I’m a proper Christmas traditionalist – reds and golds and greens, lots of carols, mulled wine. If we had an open fire there would no doubt be chestnuts roasting upon it each December!
I fell in love with this – hard to make out in the iPhone pic, I grant you, but it’s the holy family worked in delicate, beautiful glass with some gold detailing. I was sad so many of my Christian friends live far away – I’m thinking up packaging possibilities as I type! This ornament will look so pretty on the tree. Each year I buy a few ornaments to add to our collection; it joins a bauble from the Guinness factory and some other things I picked up today.
A very patriotic tree! London buses, underground signs, Union Jacks (but no match for last years’ ‘wine’ themed tree in Dallas!)
I thought these two were sweet and fit with my theme colours well. My tree is a real mishmash – because so many of my pupils know I love Christmas I often get ornaments as gifts. And my generous friends give me Christmas decorations too from time to time. I actually found a beautiful ornament to give to a friend for Christmas during today’s shop – don’t you just love when you find the perfect pressie? (No pics – top secret!)
