Choosing joy was very much a central theme of Gitzen Girl, a blog I read and enjoyed for a fair few years. The author, Sara, was intelligent, kind, godly, sweet and so, so funny. Despite having to deal with illness and frustrations and myriad issues which could have got her down, she was just a real, honest, lovely, inspiring person throughout.
Sadly, in September 2011, Sara passed away, succumbing finally to the chronic illness that had left her housebound and growing ever weaker. I remember reading the post that let me know she was gone and just crying and crying. Sara had a true servant’s heart, a passion for words and such love for people. She inspired me each and every day, reminding me that joy and thankfulness are so important. And that friendship, compassion and community are key. She gave me that feeling all good friends or good bloggers do; she made me want to be a better person.
The lovely ladies over at (in)courage made a video to celebrate our girl. These women knew her well and can do far more justice to all she achieved. I was just a reader, someone touch by a wonderful person. If you have a spare half hour, it really is a beautiful celebration of an exceptional woman. Miss her words, miss her.
