Project Life Tuesday: 30th December – 5th January

The Mom Creative

The last week of break was chilled and relaxed, as these things should be.  As well as celebrating new year’s with a lovely bunch of people, I also got to catch up with lovely folk such as Eileen, Hannah and Shona, as well as tearing through a few books, chilling with Matthew and the katzen, starting our healthkick and getting physically and mentally prepared for the school term ahead!

As this posts (Lord bless the scheduled post function!) I’ll be just getting up and doing my 30 minutes on the cross-trainer.  The early mornings are a kick in the pants, but there’s something so cool about knowing your workout (however small!) is done and dusted.

Despite the busy-ness of the week, and the wonderful cast of characters I spent it with, I only took a few snaps…it really felt like a time for relaxation, reflection, and words, rather than photo-op-ing it up.  I do have a few, which nicely show how I rounded off 2012 and greeted 2013.  Happy New Year!

A quick snapshot from the NYE party.  Our dear friends James and Laura had a wonderful get-together at their flat, complete with yummy cocktails, great company, games, karaoke, and gallons of silliness.  It was such a great night!  We also had James and Laura join us for New Year’s Night supper – pies and peas and darts!

My dear sweet laptop completely broke, first thing on January 2nd.  I actually got a little weepy – is that wrong?  I loved that little piece of kit – I wrote most of this blog on it, it’s where I sent the first few emails and messages to that cute boy I met in Edinburgh…. It’s entirely kaput, but Matthew in his huge cleverness has been able to recover any music, docs and photos that weren’t backed up!  Thank you, baby!

Laura and James have the most amazing view across the city.  I love the lights of Canary Wharf – always seems pretty glamorous to this smalltown girl!

It’s been lovely to have so much time to relax and play and snuggle with the katzen.  Poppet is such a sweet girl!

I noticed when looking back over the years that I tend to sag a little bit in the darker months – I feel lower and more stressed and tired.  So I’ve bought myself a little SAD lamp, to see if this might help.  More on this later in the month once I’ve given it a little time 🙂

More of Laura and James’ fantastic view.  That bright light in the distance is the fireworks display at the London Eye!  We could see it all clear as day, but my iPhone wasn’t up to recording it so well!

Leela is such a camera hog now.  She looooooves my phone – the minute it comes out she starts purring and head dooshing it!

She also likes sitting in waste paper bins.

Fry gets lots of love (he is a snuggly, huggly boy who loves giving us purrs and friendlehs!), but his jet black fur makes it harder to snap him.  He’s a delight, just beautiful.

I was working on my budgeting Saturday – Miss Paws decided she would help (if by “help” you mean purr non-stop, stand on my computer, and increase the cat food budget by 3000%).  Such a sweetie pie!

I’m so excited to be doing Project Life again this year!  Here’s to a great 2013.

Oh no! I would have been a little tearful over my laptop! Your friend's view is really amazing.

Hooray for clever partners who can recover data! I've had Mr. RK bail me out on more than one occasion. I have sewing lightbulbs in our lamps – you can get them at any fabric store – they're the same as a lightbox and work wonders!

Thank goodness you were able to get your stuff from the laptop! I always go into panic mode when mine breaks but thankfully it has yet to actually bite the dust!

Few things invite panic in my heart more speedily than a tech fail!

So glad you did not lose the data – we've got a SAD lamp and dawn simulator lamp. I think they might be working but I'm going to keep giving it time. 🙂 Would love to hear what you think.
