2014: The Review

This review is becoming something of a yearly tradition….you can find the reviews for 2007200820092010 , 20112012 and 2013 by clicking through. It’s always nice to take stock at the end of a year and see what’s happened over the last 12 months.

1. What did you do in 2014 that you’d never done before?

I got married.  I have a husband!  And he’s super.

See? 😀

2. Did you keep your New Years’ resolutions and will you make more for next year?

I didn’t really have a resolution – this year was very much about getting wed!  Next year, I’m going to be getting a little more ambitious…

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

The older I become, the more babies there are.  No complaints here, I love me some baby cuddles!  There have been several newbies who I’ve loved meeting this year.  Looking forward to being naughty Auntie Claire to ’em all!

4. Did anyone close to you die?

Not this year, but several people I love have lost people.  So sad.

5. What countries did you visit?

England, Scotland, Spain.  It’s been a quiet one!

6. What would you like to have in 2015 that you lacked in 2014?

More sleep, more gumption.  It’s going to be a busy year.  I’ve got plans!

7. What date from 2014 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

16th August, when I got to marry my best friend and the most wonderful person I know.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

The wedding being as nice as it was!  Matthew and I worked hard and saved hard, and it was so lovely to have it all come together.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Allowing others to tell me who I am.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

I’m waaaaaay too heavy at the moment.  I’m looking forward to eating less, moving more, and losing some pounds before the honeymoon!

11. What was the best thing you bought?

Books, cocktails, coffee and gifts.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?

As ever, my loved ones.  They are superb.  I have been so overwhelmed with the wave of love this year.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?

Mean girls.  Some of whom were not girls. Yeah, you still meet them in your thirties, it turns out.  Line drawn below it all now, thankee muchly.

14. Where did most of your money go?

Savings, wedding, savings, honeymoon, savings, books, savings, travel, savings, fun times.

Weddings, cats, and girldates.

16. What song will always remind you of 2014?

Shake It Off, by Taylor Swift

17. Compared to this time last year, are you: Happier or sadder? Thinner or fatter? Richer or poorer?

Happier.  Fatter.  Richer (not hard, given how much we had to belt-tighten for the wedding).

Reading, napping, letter writing, exercising.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?

Worrying about things beyond my control.

Cosily at home with Matthew and the cats.

All of them.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2014.

Life ain’t a track meet, it’s a marathon (to quote Ice Cube #oldschool).

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

‘The players gonna play, play, play, play, play
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate
Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off
Heart-breakers gonna break, break, break, break, break
And the fakers gonna fake, fake, fake, fake, fake
Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off’

T-Swizzle forever!

Rather than adding eleventy million pictures to this post, I thought I’d make a little slideshow of a bunch of instagram moments and some of our wedding photos (the song dubbed over was sung at our wedding too!).  Thanks, 2014, you’ve been lovely.  Thank you to each and everyone of you for the joy and loveliness you have brought into my world this year!

PS I *love* that the shot the video has frozen on is me goofing off.  Always keeping it real, baby…
