I Love Your Blog: Island Bell

Hellllloooooo!  How was your long weekend?  I had a brill time, all but ignoring computer screens, hanging out with some lovely folk, and generally having a ball.  But now it’s back to the fun of blogging, and I hit the ground running with another ‘I Love Your Blog‘ post.  Perfect!

Today’s guest is the delightful Erin, who blogs at Island Bell.  Erin is a super writer with a lovely eye for visuals, as well as being a sweet and hilarious person to talk to – I love catching up with her when we are both on the guest list for events!  I loved getting the chance to interview her and hope you enjoy a little glimpse of her style in the chat below.  Whether it’s food, travel, fashion, beauty or London, I always love reading what Erin shares about!

1.      How long have you been blogging?

I’ve
been blogging properly for two years now! I was working with bloggers at a
digital marketing agency and thought I would give it a go – but once I set it
up, I didn’t do anything with it for about five months!

2.      What do you blog about?  Do you have a specific
goal with your blog (i.e. reviewing products, promoting a business,
transitioning into a writing / media / digital career), or is it more a record
of your life?

I blog
about food, beauty, travel and living in London! I’m half-Japanese so I do like
to attempt some fusion dishes, but started blogging because I love writing, and
wanted to get better at photography! My blog is definitely a record of my life
– it’s a great way to let my family (who live in New York and Cambodia) know
what I’m up to, and not annoy all of my Facebook friends with photos of food!

3.      What is your favourite thing about blogging?

My
favourite thing about blogging is the people! I’ve met some incredible people
(like Claire, obviously!)* who are so creative, friendly, and welcoming – the
London blogging community in particular is so great, and I’ve made some great
friends from it too. I wasn’t expecting to make friends IRL through blogging,
but it’s definitely an occupational hazard – you meet lots of awesome and
like-minded people.

4.      What is your least favourite thing about
blogging?

My
least favourite thing is the fact that I find I don’t have much time to devote
to it as other people do – and I’m always afraid that I’m neglecting it! I try
to keep to a twice a week schedule, but life does get in the way sometimes!

5.      Do you have any favourite posts on your blog – pieces you’re
really proud of, which document something special, or which seemed to strike a
chord with your readers?

I’m
really proud of my food photography – I think I’ve improved so much since I
started blogging! I started a series where I would recreate recipes from
literature – I’ve been neglecting it recently, but my Turkish Delight recipe
from the LiterEATure post is something I’m proud of!

My
Duck & Waffle post has also gotten a lot of attention, and I really like my
post about my recent trip to Kep and Kampot in Cambodia, too.

6.      Whose blogs do you love?  I’m always looking for
recommendations
J

SUCH
a hard question! I love Natasha’s blog, Graphique Fantastique, especially as I always feel like I’m
learning so much about graphic design! Silverspoon London and Luxury Columnist
always give me travel envy, and Jasmin
Charlotte
‘s tech posts are so helpful.

7.      I love your food posts!  What are your favourite
cuisines, either to make, or to eat?

I
lived in Tokyo and Seoul when I was a kid, and I love both making and eating
Japanese and Korean food! I’m also a massive fan of Peruvian food, too – I went
to Pachamama recently and it was awesome!

8.     What’s next on your travel
wishlist?

I’m itching to go to Cuba! I’d
also love to go to South Africa and Peru – I’ve travelled extensively in Europe
and all over Asia, but still haven’t been anywhere on the African continent or
South America and I’d love to go!

9.      What hopes and dreams do you have for your blog going
forward?

I
have been so lucky to meet such amazing people, and have such great
opportunities come my way – just hoping for more of the same!

10.  What tips do you have
for bloggers growing and nurturing their blogs?

Be
yourself! It’s your USP – and to engage and chat to other bloggers as much as
you can, they are (usually) a lovely bunch!

* awwwww, thanks, Erin!
