One of the things I enjoy the most about blogging is the community. It’s so nice to meet, other bloggers, read what they have to say, and in the best instances become friends with them. Like any hobby, industry, or group, there’s plenty of scope for spats, rivalries or competition, but on the whole most bloggers are great, supportive and warm. It’s a big part of why I started ‘I Love Your Blog‘ – there are so many bloggers and blogs worth celebrating.
I’m aware that I write this as someone who’s been blogging for quite a while, and also as someone who is lucky enough to have found many ‘kindred spirits’ (to borrow from Anne Shirley) along the way. I’m also someone who loves to connect and make friends, so I’ve always wanted to get out there and ‘meet’ other bloggers and writers. There are so many ways to do this – reading blogs, following on social, reaching out over email, chatting at events – but today I want to talk about something I enjoy as a way of discovering new blogs and chatting with fellow bloggers. Twitter chats.
Twitter chats (for the unitiated) are chats on twitter using a certain hashtag at a certain time, to have a discussion. Sometimes the discussion is really focused (photography tips, blog monetizing, travel plans, etc.), at other times broad as can be. It’s a fun way to interact with other bloggers. Some are niche, meant for a certain type of blogger – others are open to all. I don’t by any means manage to attend all of these every week (truly, not enough hours in the day!), but if I find myself on twitter at the appointed hour, here are a few of my current favourites, or ones my circle enjoy.
Please note, all times are London ones – YTMV (your timezone may vary).
One of the new chats on the block, set up to compliment #TheGirlGang collective started by Gemma of Dorkface. Positive, uplifting chat.
BDIB stands for Blogs Do It Better, and this is one of the broader chats. Always busy, and lots of different opinions, types of blog, etc.
I’ve yet to try this chat for myself (Tuesdays always seem to be busy), but I’m looking forward to doing so – adore catching up with the book blogger community, so many gems there!
A great chat for the beauty bloggers amongst us – love checking in when I’m seeking some new beauty tips!
Great twice weekly chat for lifestyle bloggers.
One of the smaller chats, run by the Joe Blogs network. When on form, one of the funniest chats around.
This is another newish chat, set up by Sarah, the founder of Bloggeration (the online blog magazine I write for on culture, fact fans). This is a fun and light-hearted chat which I always arrive too late for – setting an alarm so I can attend next time I’m home on a Sunday!
So that’s my first seven recommendations – more to follow, no doubt! Do you enjoy twitter chats? Have I missed any of your favourites?
