9 great instagrams for book lovers to follow (pt 1)

If you’ve read here before, you will know that I love books. And like any good blogger, I’m also pretty darn fond of instagram! When these two elements combine, you find some excellent bookstagram moments. I share plenty of books, bookshops and text on my own account, but I also like to follow lots of ‘book people’ – journalists, bloggers, publishers, bookshops. It’s a great way to keep up with news, get inspired, and get gooey-eyed at an impressive procession of book based goodness.  Here are nine of my favourite bookfolk to follow on instagram (pt 2 and beyond to follow…..) – whether or not you adore books, all of these are well worth a follow.

Note – I have embedded an image from each instagrammer, so clearly these pictures are in no way, shape or form mine! I’m sure this is glaringly apparent, but I always like to be honest and transparent on this here blog.

Yes, the author of The Book Thief has an instagram. @markuszusak posts sporadically about writing, life, travel, and dogs.

@nottinghillbookshop is a sweet little instagram for the bookshop in that part of town. Ever improving flatlay game!

@marieluthewriter shares about books and writing often, but also about life and loveliness too. She’s also a Hamilton fan, so clearly I was going to be on board!

@camdenlockbooks is a sweet little instagram for the bookshop of the same name here in the city. I love the vintage books posts – some real gems!

@catbookclub does exactly what you’d expect. Pretty kitties plus pretty books is my idea of insta-heaven!

@erinmorgenstern, writer of The Night Circus and other wonders, gives great insta, sharing about writing & travel, and sometimes showcasing some sweet, sweet stationery (as above).

A photo posted by Miranda July (@mirandajuly) on

@mirandajuly is a writer, filmmaker and artist who shares her travels, adventures and passions on instagram. I love checking in to see where she is and what she’s up to; she always has something interesting to say.

A photo posted by National Geographic (@natgeo) on

@NatGeo is just a great follow – vivid images, beautifully captured, remind us all at once how vivid and beautiful this world is. The stories and people behind the pictures never fail to inspire.

A photo posted by Subway Book Review (@subwaybookreview) on

@subwaybookreview is a fanstastic account full of strangers reviewing books – I’ve picked up so many ‘to reads’ from this account.  Starting out on the NYC subway, it’s now doing book reviews on the Tube as well. Exciting!

Part two to follow; I hope you’ve found someone here you’d like to have in your instagram feed!

What a useful post for book lovers. I think I may follow the Notting Hill book shop. I wonder if this was the book shop from the film Notting Hill?

I didn't know that the author of The Book Thief was on Instagram, very cool. Have you heard of bookcrossing.com, you can leave books you've read with a note for strangers to find!

Bookcrossing (and postcrossing) are total faves! I don't always have time to join in, but when I do, I love it.
