Happy Monday/Ten Happy Things #10

Hello all! And big love to all the teachers, parents and little ones starting school terms today – it feels very odd not to be doing so (only the second September of my remembered life when I’m not bound by terms of some sort). A little sad not to be in the mad start-of-term whirl, but also cosy with a cup of tea and wearing yoga pants right now, so aware there are swings and roundabouts to factor in! It’s Monday, it’s the start of the week, and I’m joining up as ever with Katy and Jasmin (she’s currently on a brief hiatus, but I still like to give her a wave!) for a lovely, positive start to the week. Let’s go!

1. Cooler weather

After the weeks and weeks of heat, I’m adoring the ever cooler temperatures. I love this time of year – from September to December is my favourite time.

2. Tomato soup and cheese on toast

Cooler weather also means it’s time to break out comfort foods like soup for lunch, and drink lots of lovely cups of tea.

3. Jumpers, cardigans, and hoodies…oh my

And whole swathes of my wardrobe are back in play! Shona and I are off to see Pride and Prejudice at the Open Air Theatre later (please be kind, rain) and I was just thinking I might need to take a coat. I haven’t worn a coat in months!

4. Book launches…

Last Wednesday I was invited along to the always lovely Goldsboro Books for the launch of A Boy Made of Blocks by Keith Stuart. It was a lovely evening celebrating an extraordinary book (review to follow as soon as I’ve finished the book) with some cracking book folk. I love book people.

5. …and book clubs

Speaking of book people, the next night I popped along to the inaugural Mantle book club, where we discussed Miss You (my review is here) over platters of cheese and charcuterie, prosecco and alcoholic slushies. It was so lovely to be able to talk through a book in such passionate, interesting company, and I’m very much looking forward to the next get-together in January.

6. Packing lists

This time in a fortnight (eep!) I’ll be in New York. So I guess I’d better start thinking what on earth to take!

7. Silly adventures with good friends

Hannah and I had a get-together in the diary on Saturday. I’d mapped out a route of twenty or so blue plaques devoted to literary figures (ever the bookworm!). We set out on our quest, only to have the drizzle at the start of proceedings develop into a wet and windy downpour. We gave up between Westminster and Victoria and holed up in a pub for Malbec and nachos.

These photos make me giggle – we always have such fun goofing around together! Also, how short am I?

Later we popped to the casino for cocktails with Matthew and an introduction to blackjack for Hannah. Such a fun, impromptu adventure!

8. Terrible, awful, brilliant, wonderful movies

On Sunday I was properly lazy, reading, drinking tea, watching documentaries and staying pretty much as still as possible. In the evening Shona and I had a pizza and PJs party, watching the incredibly cheesey double header of Grease 2 and Honey. Good times.

9. Plans for later in the year

Post holidays we’ve started planning a few things for the tailend of the year, with trips and parties aplenty to keep us occupied!

10. Instagram

At the start of the year I set myself a couple of little social targets. I wanted to hit 3,000 followers on twitter by the close of the year, and 1,000 on instagram. Small, but I love to set a wee goal. The twitter one I met a couple of months back, but now the instagram one is getting ever closer; I hope I can do it by the close of 2016 too, I love sharing over there 🙂

Have a glorious week, all!

It's just perfect! I enjoy the finer things in life as much as the next girl, but a can of Heinz on a rainy day is a true joy!

I don't like the cold but I like the fashion that comes with it and the food as you said is comfort food which is good in my books.

What is it about autumn that makes you crave cheese on toast? I actually had this for lunch. I like to put a bit of tomato puree on the bread first and it tastes like a mini pizza. Lush!
