When we were researching places and sites to visit during our trip to Calgary earlier this year, several suggestions came up again and again. One of those suggestions was to go to Calgary Tower, the 191 metre tall tower that dominates the city centre skyline, with views for miles in every direction. While we were in town, shortly after Easter, Calgary and the rest of Alberta were still having lots of snowy weather, but on the evening we decided to ascend it was relatively clear and we could take in views like this…
As ever when atop the towers of this kind, all the shots are through glass, but I hope it gives you a sense of the size, scale, and beauty of Calgary. Calgary Tower turned 50 this year, and we loved spotting it in the distance as we traversed the city. We actually stayed in the hotel across the road from the Calgary Tower (the Marriott – try the old fashioneds, trust me!) and loved hearing the chimes of the carillon as we passed.
Looking off into the distance. I truly fell in love with Calgary on this trip.
Looking out on some of the venues for the annual extravanganza that is the Calgary Stampede! I must say the Stampede sounds amazing, I really hope we can visit one year. One of my favourite ‘fun facts’ I learned at the Calgary Tower is that each year during the Stampede one of the horsemen brings his trusty steed up, in the elevator, to the top of the tower. That horse must love a good view!
The beaver and bear look cuter, but I think our grins show just how much we enjoyed our visit!
If you’re visiting Calgary, I’d definitely urge you to add the Calgary Tower to your list. A fun way to see a lot of the city!
